Andy Isabella, WR, Massachusetts #5

5087, 187, 4.41

Notes: From Mayfield, OH. Had a scholarship offer from Air Force, but wanted to play Division I and chose UMass. Coaches call him “Izzy.” Appeared in 10 games, starting one, as a freshman in 2015; caught 2 passes for 7 yards, rushed 3-28 and averaged 18.5 on 17 kickoff returns. Appeared in all 12 games, starting 10 at wide receiver, catching 62-801-7 and rushing 12-100 in 2016. Played in and started all 12 games, caught 65-1,020-10 and rushed 14-135-1 in 2017. Wore #23 as an underclassman, switched to #5 in 2018. Majoring in mechanical engineering.

Positives: Very productive receiver with excellent hands. Natural feel for the game. Great feet. Consistently gets open. Polished all-around route runner with sound fundamentals and technique. Frequently gets defenders to bit on fakes and creates separation. Gets downfield. Very quick with excellent acceleration and field speed. Makes big plays. Tough for size. Quick, darting, effective open-field runner after the catch and on reverses. Outstanding work ethic. Goes all out all the time. Team leader.

Negatives: Smaller than you’d like. Has a tendency to cradle or trap the ball against his body instead of consistently extending his hands to catch the ball. Some durability concerns because of lack of size.

Summary: Lacks prototype size, but consistently makes plays and does all the little things extremely well. Excellent slot-receiver prospect in the Wes Welker/Danny Amendola mold.
