Breckyn Hager, OLB, Texas #44

6026, 245, 4.79

Notes: From Austin, TX. His father, Britt, was an All-America linebacker for the Longhorns and played nine seasons in the NFL with the Eagles (1989-94), Broncos (1995-96) and Rams (1997). Played in 9 games at linebacker and on special teams, missing 3 games due to injury, as a freshman in 2015, posted 18 tackles, 1 INT (returned 10 yards) and 1 PBU. Played in all 12 games and made 5 starts, recording 64 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 6 sacks, 1 PBU and 1 FF in 2016. Spent some time at middle linebacker in the spring 2017, but moved back outside when the season began. Played in all 13 games primarily as a third-down linebacker and made 4 starts, with 23 tackles, 9 TFL, 4 sacks, 4 PBU and 1 FR. Started at defensive end in 2018. Has posted a 38-inch vertical jump. Made a vow to not cut his hair until Texas won the Big 12 title.

Positives: Explosive off the ball with a quick first step. Locates the ball nicely. Can take on and shed blocks. Disrupts in the backfield. Shows good leverage at the point of attack. Physical, intense and aggressive with a non-stop motor. Really plays hard. Hustles in pursuit. Can dip his shoulder and cut the corner rushing off the edge.

Negatives: Is not a great open-field athlete. A little too aggressive at times and will overrun plays. Lacks ideal bulk as an end and agility in coverage at linebacker.

Summary: Solid edge-rush outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.
