Andrew Van Ginkel, OLB, Wisconsin #17

6032, 236, 4.79

Notes: From Rock Valley, IA. Was also a very good basketball player in high school. Began college career at South Dakota. Redshirted in 2014. Started all 11 games at defensive end in 2015, posting 56 tackles, 18.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 FF and 3 FR. Spent 2016 season at Iowa Western Community College, where he played in 11 games and logged 50 tackles, 13 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 1 INT (for 11 yards and 1 touchdown), 2 FF and 1 FR. Played in all 14 games for the Badgers in 2017, making 39 tackles, 10 TFL, 6.5 sacks, 2 INT, 4 PBU and 2 FF. Suffered a right leg injury and was slowed some during 2018.

Positives: Good athlete. Above-average length. High-motor, high intensity player with a knack for big plays and disruption. Good instincts and feel for the game. Quick to react. Aggressive in pursuit. Textbook tackling form. Can rush the passer. Gets upfield. Shows speed off the edge as well as an inside spin move. Effective in pass coverage. Great feel for the passing lanes and is often in the right place at the right time. Should excel initially on special teams. Sound work ethic and character.

Negatives: Somewhat narrow frame and build. Lacks great power to stack at the point of attack and gets engulfed and move at times.

Summary: Not a dominant physical talent, but a very productive play-maker in all phases. Should be able to transition to the NFL quickly and contribute early in his pro career.
