6075, 285, 4.89
Notes: From Provo, UT. Son of former BYU coach Steve Kaufusi. Athletic family. Has four siblings including Bronson (Ravens) who played football for BYU and Alexis who played on BYU's women's basketball team. Eagle Scout. Served LDS mission to Korea from 2012-2014. Walk-on to the BYU basketball team and started 23 games at center. Gave up basketball to focus solely on football his last two years at BYU. Played in all 13 games at DE, starting five, in 2016 and posted 31 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 blocked kicks, and caught a fourth-down conversion on a fake field goal. Started all 13 games at LDE, finished third on team with 67 tackles and added 6 sacks, 7.5 TFL, 2 FF and one blocked kick.
Positives: Excellent length and natural strength. Long arms. Can take on and control blockers. Doesn’t stay blocked. Can stack at the point of attack and anchor against the run. Can overwhelm with power rush at times. Difficult to throw over, disrupts the passing lane. Hustles in pursuit. Good motor.
Negatives: Is not explosive or quick-twitch off the ball. Plays too high at times, negating his strength.
Summary: Solid anchor DE prospect with good upside potential.
