Raekwon Davis, DE, Alabama #99

6062, 306, 5.07

Notes: From Meridian, MS. Saw action in seven games as a true freshman in 2016; recorded 4 tackles and one sack. On August 27, 2017, Davis was shot in the right leg (allegedly accidentally self-inflicted), outside of a bar, in the early Sunday morning hours, and sustained a minor injury. “The victim was uncooperative with investigators,” according to Tuscaloosa law enforcement at the time. Less than a week later, he played in the opener against Florida State, recording a sack. Made a significant impact in 2017; posting 69 tackles, 10 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 1 FR, 1 PD, 1 INT. Coached by long-time NFL DL coach Karl Dunbar (Bears 2004, Viking 2006-11, Jets 2012-14, Bills 2015, Steelers 2018) in 2016-17.

Positives: Outstanding mixture of length, long arms, natural strength and athletic ability. Dominates at times. Works and plays hard and has gotten better quickly. Very competitive. Plays with intensity. Very quick off the ball for his size. Gets upfield push and can frequently move the pocket and disrupt the backfield. Uses his arms well to keep blockers off his body. Can overpower and overwhelm blockers as an inside pass rusher and has advanced hand use and technique as pass rusher. Sees frequent double-team attention. Controls blockers, sheds and pursues down the line. Good ball awareness.

Negatives: Has had stretches where he was lax with his technique and intensity, particularly early on in college. Will need to explain August 2017 gunshot incident to pro teams.

Summary: Impressive physical specimen with blend of size, natural strength, quickness and athleticism that cannot be coached. Good motor and virtually unblockable when his technique is right. Potential early-first round pick.
