Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M #81
6041, 250, 4.76
Notes: From Kingfisher, OK. His parents were both college athletes, his mother a basketball standout. Played quarterback in high school until moving to tight end after a shoulder injury. Also excelled in basketball. Began college career at Kansas. Redshirted in 2015. Saw action in 10 games a freshman, catching 1 pass for 5 yards, in 2016. Spent 2017 at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he caught 21 passes for 336 yards and 6 touchdowns. Transferred to Texas A&M, where he appeared in all 12 games, catching 47 passes for 804 yards and 10 touchdowns (school record for tight ends) in 2018.
Positives: Outstanding pass receiver who moves like a big wide receiver. Excellent hands. Adjusts to the ball well and routinely makes difficult catches. Very fluid catching the ball. Quick line release and creates separation out of his breaks. Good quickness, acceleration and speed in the open field. Effective runner after the catch. Capable blocker, particularly in the open field.
Negatives: Lacks bulk, strength and explosiveness as a blocker and needs technique development. Really only one full season of major college production.
Summary: Very good pass-catching tight end prospect. Not complete, but can make an impact in the passing game for a pro offense.
