Notes: Full name is Dakoda Kirk Martin. Born in El Paso, TX and played for his father, Kirk, at Manvel (TX) High School. Redshirted in 2014. Backup at both tackle spots, seeing action in 8 games, in 2015. Saw action in all 13 games, including 4 starts (3 at tackle, 1 at tight end) in 2016. Appeared in 13 games, making 12 starts at left tackle, in 2017. Married former Texas A&M volleyball standout Jazzmin Babers in the summer of 2017. Suffered a heat stroke during practice in April 2018, with his temperature reaching as high as 106 degrees and was suffering from kidney failure. He spent time in the ICU before recovering and being released later that week. He missed the remainder of spring ball. Decided to go to Syracuse as a graduate transfer in May 2018, where his father is now an assistant coach (quarterbacks), and his father-in-law, Dino Babers, is the head coach. Graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in university studies (sports conditioning concentration) and is enrolled in instructional design, development and evaluation graduate program at Syracuse.
Positives: Nice size and above-average athletic ability. Plays with passion and intensity. Looks for someone to hit. Always hustling.
Negatives: Struggles to anchor against power and gets too high at times.
Summary: Much will depend on his senior campaign, especially after the serious health scare (heat stroke) issue in the spring.
