Charles Wright, OLB, Vanderbilt #11
6025, 240, 4.78
Notes: Had a challenging early childhood. Never knew his biological mother, spent time in foster care and moved five times, living in four states before he was 9. He was adopted Aug. 5, 2003, a date he has inked in large Roman numerals across his right triceps. His father is an engineer, his mother a financial analyst. Does well in the classroom. Also excelled in basketball in high school. Teammates call him “Chuck.” Redshirted in 2014. Backup linebacker and special teams contributor, posting 3 tackles, 1.5 TFL and 1 sack in 2015. Played in 12 games, recording 13 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1 FF and 1 FR in 2016. Played in all 12 games, playing through midseason injuries, in 2017; recorded 43 tackles, 9 TFL and 7.5 sacks. Wright has gotten involved in the community, especially after serving an internship as a juvenile probation officer as part of his human and organizational development major. His “Impact with Backpacks” drive provided school supply items for Nashville kids in need. Set to graduate in December 2018.
Positives: Has some speed off the edge and can get upfield and rush the passer. Can dip his shoulder and close. Willing worker. Wants to get better.
Negatives: Needs work on his technique and body control. Gets too high and doesn’t break down to tackle at times. Inconsistent in his reads and can get caught out of position with his run fits.
Summary: Very good tool-set and flashes impact ability. Has the work ethic and talent to make it at the next level.
